Kano poll tribunal receives 33 petitions
According to reports, the Kano State Election Petitions Tribunal has received a total of 33 petitions challenging the outcome of the 2019 governorship election in Kano State.
The petitions were filed by various political parties and candidates who lost the election, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Abba Yusuf, who came second in the election.
The petitioners are seeking to nullify the election and order a fresh one, citing various irregularities and malpractices during the election.
The tribunal, which is headed by Justice Halima Shamaki, has fixed dates for the hearing of the petitions, with the first batch of petitions to be heard from March 2 to 14.
The Kano State governorship election was held on March 9, 2019, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Abdullahi Ganduje, was declared the winner.
However, the PDP and other opposition parties have been disputing the outcome of the election, alleging widespread rigging and manipulation of the electoral process.
The tribunal's decision is expected to be a significant development in the political landscape of Kano State and could potentially affect the political fortunes of the APC and other parties in the state.
