Ipob leader kanu sues agf dss contempt court
It appears that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging contempt of court.
According to reports, Kanu is seeking an order of the court to commit the AGF, the DSS, and other respondents to prison for allegedly disobeying a court order that granted him bail in April 2017.
Kanu's lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, stated that the respondents had failed to comply with the court's order, which granted Kanu bail on health grounds. Ejiofor alleged that the respondents had continued to detain Kanu despite the court's order, and that they had also refused to allow him to access medical treatment.
The lawsuit is seeking an order of the court to commit the respondents to prison for contempt, as well as an order directing them to release Kanu from custody and allow him to access medical treatment.
It's worth noting that Kanu has been in detention since June 2021, when he was arrested by the DSS and charged with treasonable felony. His detention has been the subject of controversy, with many arguing that it is unlawful and unconstitutional.
The case is currently pending before the Federal High Court in Abuja, and it remains to be seen how the court will rule on Kanu's allegations of contempt.
