Inec insists rivers elections will not be postponed
According to recent reports, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated that the governorship and state assembly elections scheduled for March 18, 2023, in Rivers State will not be postponed.
INEC's National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, made this statement during a press briefing in Abuja. He emphasized that the commission has not received any request to postpone the elections and that all necessary arrangements are in place to ensure a successful exercise.
Okoye also assured that INEC is working closely with the security agencies to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the elections. He urged all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters, to cooperate with the commission to ensure the success of the elections.
It's worth noting that there have been concerns about the possibility of election postponement in Rivers State due to security concerns and other issues. However, INEC's latest statement appears to have put these concerns to rest, at least for now.
What do you think about INEC's decision to proceed with the elections as scheduled? Do you think it's the right call, or do you think there are valid reasons to postpone the elections?
