INDIGENES PROTEST AGAINST STOPPAGE OF WORK ON OGBOmosho-OYO ROAD
Residents of Ogbomoso, a town in Oyo State, Nigeria, have taken to the streets to protest the sudden stoppage of work on the Ogbomoso-Oyo road project. The protesters, who are mainly indigenes of the town, are demanding that the government resume work on the project, which they claim has been stalled for several months.
The protest, which started early in the morning, saw hundreds of residents, including women and children, blocking major roads in the town, chanting slogans and carrying placards with inscriptions such as "Resume work on Ogbomoso-Oyo road now", "We want a better road", and "Oyo State government, listen to our plea".
The protesters, who were led by community leaders and traditional rulers, accused the government of abandoning the project, which they claimed was initiated to improve the economic and social well-being of the people of Ogbomoso.
According to them, the stoppage of work on the project has caused untold hardship to the people, who are now forced to navigate the rough and dusty road, which has become a major source of concern for the residents.
"We are tired of the suffering caused by the poor state of our road. We are tired of the dust and the potholes that have become a major challenge for us. We want the government to resume work on the project and complete it as soon as possible," said one of the protesters, who identified himself as Alhaji Adebayo.
The protesters also accused the government of not providing adequate information on the reasons for the stoppage of work on the project, and demanded that the government provide a clear explanation for the delay.
"We want to know why the government stopped work on the project. We want to know what is happening. We want the government to provide a clear explanation for the delay," said another protester, who identified herself as Mrs. Olamide.
The protest, which has been ongoing for several hours, has caused a significant disruption to traffic in the town, with many residents and commuters forced to take alternative routes to avoid the protest.
The Oyo State government has been silent on the issue, with no official statement or response to the protesters' demands. However, the government has been accused of abandoning many projects in the state, including the Ogbomoso-Oyo road project, which was initiated several years ago.
The protesters have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met, and have called on the government to resume work on the project and complete it as soon as possible.
