A woman died while trying to save her 13-year-old nephew, who had fallen into a silo on the farm and sunk into the maize on a farm near Standerton.
THE WOMAN TRIED TO SAVE HER 13-YEAR-OLD NEPHEW
Both the woman, Jackie (33), and her nephew Kerneels Rautenbach died in the silo.
According to a report by Standerton Chronicle, the tragic incident happened on Friday.
It is believed Kerneels’ mother, Selmari sent out an urgent message pleading for help for her son, who had fallen into the silo and that he had sunk into the maize.
Selmari’s sister Jackie rushed to the farm to help save Kerneels but also lost her life.
According to the report, neighbours and community members rushed to the farm to assist.
BOTH WERE DECLARED DEAD ON THE SCENE
Kerneels and Jackie were declared dead on the scene.
André Pienaar of AfriForum said everybody who was on the scene did everything within their power to assist.
“It is amazing how a community can stand together in a time of need. Our deepest condolences to the Rautenbach family.”
CONDOLENCES TO BOTH FAMILIES
Meanwhile, Laerskool Standerton posted the following message on their Facebook page:
“We greet a special Stannie learner. Our hearts are hurting, our words are few. Kerneels Rautenbach, in your short time with us on earth, you have touched many hearts.
“You will always be remembered for the beautiful boy with the most beautiful heart. Stannies are going to miss you. “Rest in peace Kerneels. Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the Rautenbach family.”

The school also conveyed their condolences to Jackie’s family
“Stannies convey our heartfelt condolences to the Rautenbach family, with the passing of Jackie Rautenbach.Jackie was a mom to one of our Grade 5 learners. Rest in peace Jackie. You were so brave.”
Jackie leaves behind two daughters and a husband.
