Ice breaker activities for military personnel
Icebreaker activities can be a great way to help military personnel build camaraderie, trust, and communication skills. Here are some ideas for icebreaker activities that are suitable for military personnel:
- Human Bingo: Create bingo cards with different traits, characteristics, or interests (e.g. "has traveled to another country", "speaks more than one language", etc.). Each participant needs to find someone who fits each of the characteristics and get them to sign the corresponding square.
- The Name Game: Have each participant introduce themselves and share a unique fact about themselves that starts with the same letter as their name (e.g. "I'm John and I love jogging"). Then, have each participant try to remember everyone's name and fact.
- Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of items or challenges that participants need to complete (e.g. "find someone wearing the same rank insignia as you", "take a photo with someone who has the same birthday as you", etc.).
- Two Truths and a Lie: Have each participant come up with two true statements about themselves and one false statement. The other participants then try to guess which one is the lie.
- Mission Impossible: Divide the group into small teams and give them a seemingly impossible task to complete (e.g. "build a bridge with only a few pieces of string and a paperclip"). This activity encourages teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.
- Speed Friending: Inspired by speed dating, have each participant talk to someone for a set amount of time (e.g. 2-3 minutes) and then switch to talk to someone else. This activity helps participants get to know each other quickly and build connections.
- The Human Knot: Have each participant stand in a circle and put their hands in the center. Each participant should grab the hand of someone across from them, not next to them. Then, they need to work together to untangle themselves without letting go of each other's hands.
- Word Association Game: Have each participant write down a word on a piece of paper, fold it up, and pass it to the person on their right. Then, each participant takes a turn saying a word that is associated with the word they received. This activity encourages creative thinking and communication.
- Team Trivia: Create a trivia game with questions that are relevant to the military or the group's interests. This activity encourages teamwork and knowledge-sharing.
- Creative Expression: Provide materials such as art supplies, music instruments, or writing prompts and have each participant express themselves creatively. This activity encourages self-expression and helps participants get to know each other on a deeper level.
Remember to choose activities that are respectful, inclusive, and safe for all participants. It's also important to consider the group's size, age, and abilities when selecting an activity.
