How to reference news source in apa style
In APA style, when referencing a news source, you typically use the following format:
Newspaper Article
- Author's Last Name, First Initial. (Year, Month Day of Publication). Title of article. Title of Newspaper, pp. Page Numbers.
Example:
- Smith, J. (2022, January 15). New Study Reveals Surprising Benefits of Meditation. The New York Times, pp. A1-A3.
Online News Article
- Author's Last Name, First Initial. (Year, Month Day of Publication). Title of article. Retrieved from https://www.url.com
Example:
- Johnson, K. (2022, February 20). COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution to Begin Next Week. CNN. Retrieved from https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/20/health/covid-vaccine-distribution/index.html
Note:
- If the author is not listed, use the title of the article as the author.
- If the publication date is not available, use "n.d." (no date) instead.
- If the article is retrieved from a database or online archive, include the database name and the URL.
- If the article is retrieved from a news website, include the URL.
Additional Tips:
- Use the title of the article in the reference list, but use a brief summary of the article in the in-text citation.
- If the article is from a reputable news source, you can use the title of the article as the in-text citation.
- If the article is from a less reputable source, you may want to use the author's last name and year of publication as the in-text citation.
Example In-Text Citation:
- (Smith, 2022) or (Johnson, 2022)
