How to disable 9539 news update
The pesky Windows 10 News and interests feed!
To disable the Windows 10 News and interests feed (also known as the "News and interests" widget or "Feed" on the taskbar), follow these steps:
Method 1: Disable News and interests from the Settings app
- Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
- Click on "Personalization".
- Click on "Taskbar" from the left menu.
- Toggle off the switch next to "News and interests" under the "Taskbar items" section.
Method 2: Disable News and interests from the Taskbar
- Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar.
- Click on "Taskbar settings" from the context menu.
- Toggle off the switch next to "News and interests" under the "Taskbar items" section.
Method 3: Disable News and interests using the Registry Editor
- Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type
regedit
and press Enter to open the Registry Editor. - Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
- Create a new DWORD value named
ShowNews
and set its value to0
. - Close the Registry Editor.
Method 4: Disable News and interests using a Group Policy Editor (for Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education only)
- Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type
gpedit.msc
and press Enter to open the Group Policy Editor. - Navigate to the following path:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer
- Double-click on the "Turn off News and interests" policy.
- Select "Enabled" and click "Apply" and then "OK".
After disabling the News and interests feed, you should no longer see the feed on your taskbar.
