How pro oshiomhole governors saved apc national chairman
A very interesting topic!
In 2020, Adams Oshiomhole, the then National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was facing intense pressure to resign or be removed from office due to various controversies and allegations of corruption. However, a group of governors from the APC, who were loyal to Oshiomhole, came to his rescue and helped to save his position.
These governors, often referred to as the "Oshiomhole Governors," were:
- Abubakar Bagudu (Kebbi State)
- Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano State)
- Yahaya Bello (Kogi State)
- Mai Mala Buni (Yobe State)
- Simon Lalong (Plateau State)
- Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo State) (now deceased)
- Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara State)
These governors, who were largely seen as Oshiomhole's allies, worked together to counter the growing calls for his removal. They argued that Oshiomhole had done a good job as national chairman and that his removal would destabilize the party.
The Oshiomhole Governors also used their influence to block attempts to remove Oshiomhole from office. For example, they successfully lobbied against a motion to remove Oshiomhole as national chairman at the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in June 2020.
Additionally, the Oshiomhole Governors used their individual and collective influence to persuade other APC stakeholders, including governors, senators, and members of the House of Representatives, to support Oshiomhole's continued leadership of the party.
In the end, Oshiomhole was able to survive the intense pressure and remain as APC national chairman until his eventual removal in July 2020.
