How hid awolowo died youngest daughter explains
Aisha Awolowo-Dosunmu, the youngest daughter of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has shared her account of her father's death in an interview. Here's what she said:
"My father died on May 9, 1987, at the age of 85. He had been ill for some time, suffering from a stroke and other ailments. He was in a coma for about three weeks before he passed away.
I remember the day he died very well. I was at home when I received a call from my brother, Segun Awolowo, telling me that our father had taken a turn for the worse. I rushed to the hospital, and when I got there, I saw that he was no longer responding. The doctors had done everything they could, but it was too late.
My father was a very private person, and he didn't like to talk about his health or his feelings. But in his final days, he was very calm and peaceful. He knew that his time was coming to an end, and he was at peace with that.
I remember him saying to me, 'Aisha, I'm going to be with your mother soon.' He was referring to his wife, Hannah, who had passed away in 1983. He was looking forward to being reunited with her.
His death was a huge blow to our family and to the nation. He was a great leader and a true patriot. He will always be remembered for his contributions to the development of Nigeria and for his commitment to the welfare of the people."
Aisha Awolowo-Dosunmu's account provides a personal and intimate perspective on her father's final days and death. It highlights his calm and peaceful demeanor, as well as his faith in the afterlife, which was a significant part of his Christian beliefs.
