How africa europe can collaborate to tap benefit of digital economy by osinbajo at europe africa forum

Here is the text of the speech by Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President of Nigeria, at the Europe-Africa Forum on "Collaboration for a Digital Economy":

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and fellow Africans, I am honored to be speaking at this important forum, which brings together leaders from Europe and Africa to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the digital economy.

As we gather here today, we are at a critical juncture in the development of the digital economy. The world is rapidly becoming a digital economy, and Africa is no exception. In fact, Africa has the potential to be a major player in the digital economy, with its young and growing population, and its vast natural resources.

However, we also know that the digital economy presents significant challenges, particularly for developing countries like those in Africa. The digital divide is a major concern, as many Africans lack access to the internet, and those who do have access often struggle with high costs and poor connectivity.

But I believe that Africa and Europe can collaborate to tap the benefits of the digital economy. We can work together to bridge the digital divide, and to create opportunities for African businesses and entrepreneurs to participate in the global digital economy.

There are several ways that we can collaborate. First, we can work together to improve internet connectivity and access in Africa. This will require significant investment in infrastructure, but it will also create new opportunities for African businesses and entrepreneurs.

Second, we can work together to develop digital skills and capacity in Africa. This will require investment in education and training, as well as partnerships between African and European businesses and organizations.

Third, we can work together to promote African digital content and services. This will require support for African entrepreneurs and businesses, as well as partnerships between African and European companies.

Fourth, we can work together to address the challenges of data protection and cybersecurity in Africa. This will require cooperation between African and European governments, as well as between African and European businesses and organizations.

Finally, we can work together to promote African digital entrepreneurship and innovation. This will require support for African startups and small businesses, as well as partnerships between African and European companies.

In conclusion, I believe that Africa and Europe can collaborate to tap the benefits of the digital economy. We can work together to bridge the digital divide, and to create opportunities for African businesses and entrepreneurs to participate in the global digital economy.

Thank you.
