Help us fight fake news nigerian govt tells unesco
A great topic!
According to a report by the Vanguard, the Nigerian government has called on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to help combat the spread of fake news in the country.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made the appeal during a meeting with the UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, in Paris, France.
Mohammed expressed concern over the increasing spread of fake news in Nigeria, which he said was threatening the country's democracy and national security. He noted that fake news was being used to spread hate speech, promote violence, and undermine the government's efforts to develop the country.
The Minister requested UNESCO's assistance in developing a national strategy to combat fake news, as well as training journalists and media practitioners on fact-checking and verification techniques.
Azoulay commended Nigeria for taking the initiative to address the issue of fake news and pledged UNESCO's support in the fight against misinformation.
This is a great step forward in the fight against fake news in Nigeria!
