A press release dated 23rd of March, 2020 has shown that the governor of Bauchi State, his excellency Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON has gone into self isolation. The press release states that this is due to the contact his excellency had with the son of the former Vice president, Mohammed Atiku Abubakar, who was later tested positive for coronavirus by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The senior special assistant to the governor on the media, Mukhtar M. Gidado stated that the governor who recently arrived from an official trip in Lagos came in contact with Atiku Abubukar and his son on the Aero Contractors Aircraft where they were cordial and exchanged handshakes. Thus, after Atiku’s son was diagnosed with the dreadful virus, the governor isolated himself as security measures dictate.
Though the governor has not exhibited any symptoms of coronavirus, his blood samples have been taken for clinical tests. During this time of testing, the governor will remain in isolation. Consequently, all his due appointments have been cancelled. Mukhtar M. Gidado, the senior special assistant of the governor to the media mentioned in the press release that any inconveniences due to this are regretted.
The governor of Bauchi State has hence taken commendable steps by being in self isolation as such (if he is tested positive) will prevent the risk of spreading the disease. Hence, many others who have been in contact with confirmed victims should embark on such steps inorder to prevent the spread of this virus at this critical time. The general public is still encouraged to undertake simple measures such as using hand sanitisers, avoiding crowded areas, using face masks, and drinking hot water.
