Here is Luke 18:1-8 in the Good News Bible (GNB):

18:1-8

Jesus Teaches Us to Pray

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to teach them that they should always pray and not give up. "There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor cared about people," he said. "A widow in that town came to him again and again, saying, 'Defend me from my enemy and protect me from this man!' But the judge wouldn't help her, just because he was a selfish and cruel person. One day, however, the widow came to him again, and he said to himself, 'I don't care about God, but I do care about what people think. If I don't help this widow, she will keep coming to me until she wears me out. So I will help her, just to get her off my back!'"

Then Jesus said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. Will not God protect the rights of his chosen people, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And won't he do the same for you, if you ask him?"
