Genesis 3 good news bible

Here is the account of Genesis 3 in the Good News Bible (GNB):

Genesis 3

The First Sin

1 The serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day, when Eve and Adam were eating the fruit from the trees of the garden, the serpent came to them. He said, "Did God really say that you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?"

2 Eve answered the serpent, "We may eat the fruit from the trees in the garden. 3 But God said, 'You must not eat the fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'"

4 The serpent said to Eve, "You won't die! 5 God knows that when you eat the fruit from that tree, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing what is good and what is bad."

6 Eve looked at the fruit and saw that it was beautiful and delicious. She thought about what the serpent had said, and she ate some of the fruit. Then she gave some to Adam, and he ate it too.

7 At that moment, the eyes of both Adam and Eve were opened, and they saw that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.

8 When they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden, they hid themselves behind a tree. 9 But the Lord God called out to Adam, "Where are you?"

10 Adam replied, "I was hiding, because I was naked, so I was afraid." 11 But the Lord God said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten the fruit that I told you not to eat?"

12 Adam said, "The woman you gave me was with me, and she gave me the fruit, and I ate it." 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, "What have you done?"

The woman replied, "The serpent tricked me, and I ate the fruit."

14 The Lord God said to the serpent, "You have done this because you are evil. You are cursed more than all the other animals and wild animals. You will crawl on your belly and eat dust all your life. 15 I will put enemies between you and the woman, and you will fight against her descendants all your life. I will also make it hard for you to get food, and you will always be afraid."

16 To the woman, the Lord God said, "I will make it hard for you to have babies. You will have great pain when you give birth, and your desire will be for your husband, but he will rule over you."

17 To Adam, the Lord God said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate the fruit that I told you not to eat, the ground will be cursed. You will have to work hard to make it produce food, and you will have to eat the plants that grow wild. 18 You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, for it was from the ground that you were made. You will return to the ground when you die."

19 The Lord God also said, "Adam, you and the woman have disobeyed me, and now you must leave the garden and live in the wilderness. 20 But the Lord God made clothes from animal skins for Adam and his wife, and he put them on them.

21 The Lord God drove Adam and his wife out of the garden and made them live in the wilderness of Eden. They had to work hard to make a living, and they had to eat the plants that grew wild.
