Two engineering students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Taofeek Olalekan Afeez and Alayande Abdulwaheed Abiola, have emerged winners of this year’s Microsoft Imagine Cup national finals in Nigeria.
The undergraduates of Physics Electronics & Electrical Electronics who jointly formed Team TREP invented an Internet of Things (IoT) solution called Real Drip – a device that reduces the risk of blood clot or deep vein thrombosis.
TREP is a hardware startup that is focused on bridging the gap between indigenous hardware solutions that can fit into existing and evolving infrastructures.
It came top with its solution called Real-Drip, which is a device that helps monitor the flow of intravenous fluid during intravenous treatment and notifies medical staff in real time.
Microsoft Imagine Cup Nigeria is an annual competition organised by Microsoft Corporation for undergraduate students in a bid to help solve world challenges and in turn help bridge the unemployment gap in the country.
TREP emerged as the national finalist, and move on to the next stage which is to compete at the regional level later this month (May 28th). We hope they will follow the footsteps of Gamsole, Team Humane, and Sanwo who made it to the worldwide level and came back making Nigeria proud.
