Speech by President Muhammadu Buhari on the occasion of the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day

Fellow Nigerians,

I am honored to stand before you today to pay tribute to our fallen heroes who have made the supreme sacrifice in defense of our great nation. Today, we gather to remember and honor the memories of our gallant soldiers, sailors, airmen, and airwomen who have laid down their lives in the service of our country.

As we mark this solemn occasion, we recall the sacrifices of our brave men and women who have fought and died to protect our sovereignty, our territorial integrity, and our way of life. We remember the countless battles they have fought, the many lives they have lost, and the families they have left behind.

We also pay tribute to the veterans who have served our nation with distinction, and who continue to inspire us with their courage, their patriotism, and their unwavering commitment to our country. Your sacrifices will never be forgotten.

As we honor the memories of our fallen heroes, we are reminded of the importance of our armed forces in the defense of our nation. We recognize the critical role they play in maintaining peace and stability, not just within our borders, but also in the region and beyond.

We are grateful for their bravery, their professionalism, and their dedication to duty. We are proud of their achievements, and we are committed to supporting them in every way possible.

As we move forward, we must continue to prioritize the welfare and well-being of our armed forces personnel and their families. We must ensure that they have the resources they need to carry out their duties effectively, and that they are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

We must also continue to work towards a more peaceful and stable world, where our armed forces can focus on their core mission of defending our nation, rather than being deployed to conflict zones.

As we conclude this solemn occasion, I want to assure our armed forces personnel and their families that we will continue to support them, to care for them, and to honor their sacrifices.
