Frsc warns against night travel
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned against night travel, citing the high risk of accidents and fatalities on Nigerian roads.
In a statement, the FRSC said that night travel is a major contributor to road accidents and fatalities in the country, and urged motorists to avoid traveling at night unless absolutely necessary.
The FRSC attributed the high incidence of accidents at night to a combination of factors, including poor visibility, reckless driving, and the lack of adequate lighting on many roads.
The agency also warned that the use of high-beam headlights by oncoming vehicles can cause glare, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of accidents.
To reduce the risk of accidents, the FRSC advised motorists to:
- Avoid traveling at night unless absolutely necessary.
- Use low-beam headlights to reduce glare from oncoming vehicles.
- Keep a safe distance from other vehicles to allow for adequate stopping time.
- Avoid driving on roads with poor lighting or visibility.
- Take regular breaks to rest and stretch during long trips.
- Avoid driving while tired or fatigued.
- Keep a fully charged mobile phone and a spare battery in case of an emergency.
- Keep a first aid kit and a flashlight in the vehicle in case of an accident.
The FRSC also urged motorists to report any road hazards or accidents to the nearest police station or FRSC office.
It is important for all road users to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety on the roads, especially at night.
