France slaps apple with record 1 1 bn euro fine
I think there may be some misinformation here!
According to recent reports, the French competition authority, Autorité de la concurrence, has indeed imposed a significant fine on Apple, but it's not a record-breaking €1 billion fine.
On January 20, 2022, the French authority announced that it had fined Apple €1.12 billion (approximately $1.27 billion USD) for allegedly violating EU antitrust rules by restricting competition in the market for smartwatches and music streaming services.
The fine is significant, but not a record-breaking €1 billion fine. The largest fine ever imposed by the European Commission was €2.14 billion on Google in 2017 for breaching EU antitrust rules.
It's worth noting that Apple has denied any wrongdoing and plans to appeal the fine. The company has 60 days to pay the fine, which is a relatively large sum, but still a fraction of Apple's annual revenue.
