According to the United Nations, the following four countries have graduated from the list of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) since 1994:

  1. Mauritius (graduated in 2016): Mauritius was one of the first countries to graduate from the LDC list. It was classified as a middle-income country in 2016, with a GDP per capita of over $12,000.
  2. Maldives (graduated in 2011): The Maldives, a small island nation in the Indian Ocean, was removed from the LDC list in 2011. Its GDP per capita increased to over $5,000, making it a lower-middle-income country.
  3. Seychelles (graduated in 2009): Seychelles, an archipelago off the coast of East Africa, was the first country to graduate from the LDC list in 2009. Its GDP per capita exceeded $12,000, making it a high-income country.
  4. Bhutan (graduated in 2021): Bhutan, a small country in the Himalayas, was removed from the LDC list in 2021. Its GDP per capita increased to over $2,500, making it a lower-middle-income country.
