Five ways to wellbeing new economics foundation

The Five Ways to Wellbeing is a set of evidence-based actions developed by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) to promote mental wellbeing. The five ways are:

  1. Connect: Build and maintain strong relationships with family, friends, and community. This can be done by:
    • Spending quality time with loved ones
    • Joining social groups or clubs
    • Volunteering for a cause you care about
    • Participating in community events
  2. Be Active: Engage in physical activity that you enjoy, such as:
    • Exercise or sports
    • Dancing
    • Gardening
    • Walking or cycling
    • Yoga or meditation
  3. Take Notice: Pay attention to the present moment, without judgment. This can be done by:
    • Practicing mindfulness meditation
    • Taking time to appreciate the small things in life
    • Engaging in activities that bring you joy
    • Writing in a journal
  4. Keep Learning: Engage in activities that challenge your mind and promote personal growth, such as:
    • Taking a course or class
    • Reading books or articles
    • Learning a new skill or hobby
    • Participating in workshops or seminars
  5. Give: Actively contribute to the well-being of others, such as:
    • Volunteering for a cause you care about
    • Helping a friend or family member
    • Donating to a charity
    • Participating in community service projects

These five ways to wellbeing are not meant to be a one-size-fits-all approach, but rather a flexible framework that can be tailored to individual needs and circumstances. By incorporating these actions into daily life, individuals can promote their own mental wellbeing and contribute to the wellbeing of those around them.
