FG Upgrades Enugu Airport Navigational Facilities

The Federal Government of Nigeria has upgraded the navigational facilities at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, to enhance air safety and efficiency. The upgrade, which was carried out by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), includes the installation of new navigation aids such as Instrument Landing System (ILS), Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR), and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME).

The upgraded navigational facilities are designed to provide pilots with accurate and reliable navigation information, enabling them to land safely and efficiently at the airport. The upgrade is also expected to reduce the risk of accidents and incidents, and improve the overall safety of air travel in the country.

The Enugu airport is one of the busiest airports in Nigeria, serving as a major hub for domestic and international flights. The upgrade of its navigational facilities is expected to improve the airport's capacity to handle increased traffic and enhance the overall passenger experience.

The upgrade was carried out in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The project was funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria and is part of its efforts to improve the country's aviation infrastructure and enhance air safety.

The upgraded navigational facilities at the Enugu airport include:

  1. Instrument Landing System (ILS): This system provides pilots with accurate and reliable navigation information, enabling them to land safely and efficiently at the airport.
  2. Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR): This system provides pilots with navigation information, enabling them to determine their position and course.
  3. Distance Measuring Equipment (DME): This system provides pilots with distance information, enabling them to determine their distance from the airport and navigate safely.
  4. Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B): This system provides pilots with real-time navigation information, enabling them to navigate safely and efficiently.

The upgrade of the navigational facilities at the Enugu airport is a significant step towards improving air safety and efficiency in Nigeria. It is expected to enhance the overall passenger experience and improve the country's aviation infrastructure.
