FG Inaugurates National Laboratory Equipment Calibration Centre

The Federal Government has inaugurated a National Laboratory Equipment Calibration Centre in Abuja, aimed at ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results in the country.

The centre, which is a collaborative effort between the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), is designed to provide calibration services for laboratory equipment used in various sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, and environmental monitoring.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, said the centre is a major step towards promoting the development of science, technology and innovation in Nigeria.

"The calibration centre is a critical infrastructure that will enable our scientists and researchers to produce accurate and reliable results, which is essential for informed decision-making and policy formulation," Dr. Onu said.

The centre, which is equipped with state-of-the-art calibration facilities, will provide calibration services for a wide range of laboratory equipment, including thermometers, pH meters, spectrophotometers, and microscopes.

The Director-General of NASENI, Prof. Mohammed Haruna, said the centre will also provide training and capacity building for laboratory technicians and scientists, as well as offer certification services for calibrated equipment.

"We believe that the calibration centre will not only improve the quality of laboratory test results in Nigeria, but also enhance the country's competitiveness in the global scientific community," Prof. Haruna said.

The inauguration of the National Laboratory Equipment Calibration Centre is a major milestone in the country's efforts to promote the development of science, technology and innovation, and is expected to have a positive impact on various sectors of the economy.
