FORMER EKITI GOVERNOR, AYODELE FAYOSE, GRANTED MEDICAL LEAVE ABROAD

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has been granted medical leave abroad, according to a report by the Punch Newspaper.

Fayose, who is currently facing trial at the Federal High Court in Lagos over allegations of money laundering and fraud, was granted the leave by the court on Tuesday.

The court granted the leave after Fayose's lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, informed the court that his client was not feeling well and needed to travel abroad for medical treatment.

The court also ordered that Fayose's passport be released to him to enable him to travel abroad for the treatment.

Fayose's trial is ongoing, and he is facing charges of money laundering and fraud to the tune of N1.3 billion.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had accused Fayose of receiving N1.3 billion from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) during his tenure as governor of Ekiti State between 2014 and 2018.

Fayose has denied the allegations and has been claiming that he is being persecuted by the EFCC.

It is not clear how long Fayose's medical leave will last, but the court has ordered that he return to Nigeria to continue his trial once he is fit to do so.
