Fayemi gives assent to amotekun bill
I think there may be some confusion here.
Fayemi is a name, specifically that of Kayode Fayemi, the current Governor of Ekiti State in Nigeria. Amotekun is a security outfit established by the Southwest Governors' Forum, comprising the governors of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, and Ekiti states.
To clarify, it was not Fayemi who gave assent to the Amotekun bill. Instead, the bill was signed into law by the governors of the Southwest states, including Fayemi, on January 13, 2020. The bill was passed by the respective state legislatures and was seen as a response to the rising insecurity in the region.
Amotekun, which means "leopard" in the Yoruba language, is a community-based security outfit designed to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in maintaining law and order in the region. The outfit is made up of volunteers from the six states in the Southwest region, who are trained to provide security services to their communities.
I hope this clears up any confusion!
