Ezekwesili its sad that nigerian children now see death as common
I couldn't agree more. It's indeed heartbreaking to see that many Nigerian children are growing up with a sense of normalcy around death, violence, and insecurity. This is a stark reality that we as a society must confront and work to change.
As a former Minister of Education, I've had the privilege of interacting with many Nigerian children, and it's disheartening to see how they've become desensitized to the horrors of violence, kidnapping, and terrorism. It's as if they've become numb to the suffering and loss that surrounds them.
This is not only a tragedy for the children themselves but also for our collective future as a nation. When children grow up with a sense of hopelessness and despair, it can have long-term effects on their mental health, education, and overall well-being.
As a society, we must work to create a safer, more secure, and more hopeful environment for our children. This requires a multifaceted approach that involves government, civil society, and individual efforts.
We need to invest in education, healthcare, and social services to ensure that our children have access to quality resources and support. We need to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding to reduce conflict and violence. And we need to empower our children with the skills and confidence to build a better future for themselves and their communities.
As a nation, we owe it to our children to provide them with a safe and nurturing environment that allows them to thrive. We must work together to create a brighter future for them, one that is free from the scourge of violence and filled with hope, opportunity, and promise.
Let us continue to advocate for the rights and well-being of our children, and let us work together to build a Nigeria where they can grow up with dignity, hope, and a sense of purpose.
