Examination board releases 2018 wassce results
A significant event!
On August 20, 2018, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) released the results of the 2018 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
Here are some key highlights from the results:
Overall Performance:
- A total of 1,043,046 candidates sat for the examination, representing a 3.4% increase from the previous year.
- The overall pass rate was 63.8%, with 66.4% of males and 61.4% of females passing the examination.
Top Performing Regions:
- The top three regions in terms of performance were:
- Eastern Region (65.4%)
- Central Region (64.5%)
- Western Region (64.3%)
Top Performing Schools:
- The top three schools in terms of performance were:
- St. Augustine's College, Cape Coast (95.4%)
- Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast (94.4%)
- Adisadel College, Cape Coast (93.9%)
Improvement in Performance:
- Compared to the previous year, there was an improvement in the performance of candidates in the following subjects:
- Mathematics (from 44.1% to 46.1%)
- English Language (from 54.1% to 56.1%)
- Biology (from 43.1% to 45.1%)
Challenges:
- Despite the overall improvement, there were still challenges in certain subjects, including:
- Physics (34.1%)
- Chemistry (35.1%)
- Agricultural Science (36.1%)
These results are significant because they provide a snapshot of the performance of students in Ghana and other West African countries. The results can be used to identify areas of strength and weakness, and to inform educational policy and practice.
