Ex uefa president platini freed from detention
Michel Platini, the former UEFA president, has been released from detention in France after being held for several hours in connection with a corruption investigation.
Platini, a former French football star and UEFA president from 2007 to 2015, was taken into custody on Tuesday morning at the headquarters of the French financial prosecutor's office in Nanterre, a suburb of Paris.
He was being questioned in connection with a corruption investigation into the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar. Platini has been accused of receiving a bribe of €1.3 million from FIFA's former president, Sepp Blatter, in 2011.
Platini has denied any wrongdoing and has claimed that the payment was for work he did as a member of FIFA's executive committee.
After several hours of questioning, Platini was released from detention and is now considered a "witness" in the investigation, according to French media reports.
It's worth noting that Platini's detention was not a formal arrest, and he was not charged with any crime. He is still expected to be questioned further in the coming days as part of the investigation.
This development comes as a surprise to many, as Platini's detention was seen as a significant blow to his reputation and a major setback for his plans to return to football. However, his release from detention may indicate that the investigation is still ongoing and that Platini's role in the scandal is still being assessed.
