Equatorial guinea announces first coronavirus case
According to reports, Equatorial Guinea has announced its first case of coronavirus (COVID-19) on March 18, 2020. The patient is a 42-year-old man who had recently traveled to Spain, where he was infected with the virus.
The announcement was made by the country's Minister of Health, Santiago Nguema, who stated that the patient was admitted to a hospital in the capital city of Malabo and is receiving treatment.
Equatorial Guinea has taken measures to contain the spread of the virus, including:
- Closing all borders to international travel
- Suspending all public gatherings and events
- Implementing a curfew from 8pm to 6am
- Increasing surveillance and testing for COVID-19
- Providing personal protective equipment (PPE) to healthcare workers
The country has also activated its emergency response plan and is working closely with international partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), to respond to the outbreak.
It's worth noting that Equatorial Guinea has a relatively small population of around 1.4 million people, and the country's healthcare system may face challenges in responding to the outbreak. Therefore, it's essential for the government and international partners to work together to provide support and resources to help contain the spread of the virus.
