Emir kano advocates girl child education north
Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been a strong advocate for girl child education in Nigeria, particularly in the North. As the Emir of Kano, he has used his position to promote education as a key factor in the development of the region and the country as a whole.
In 2014, Emir Sanusi II launched the Kano State Hisbah Board's "Girl Child Education Initiative", which aimed to increase access to education for girls in the state. The initiative included providing scholarships to girls, building schools, and training teachers to promote girls' education.
The Emir has also spoken out against the practice of child marriage, which is prevalent in some parts of the North, and has emphasized the importance of education for girls in preventing early marriage and promoting their overall well-being.
In 2017, Emir Sanusi II was appointed as the Chairman of the National Council for Women's Development (NCWD), a position that has given him a platform to promote women's empowerment and education across the country.
Some of the initiatives he has undertaken as the Chairman of NCWD include:
- Launching the "Girl Child Education and Empowerment" program, which aims to increase access to education for girls and promote their economic empowerment.
- Establishing the "Women's Development Fund", which provides financial support to women and girls to pursue education and entrepreneurship.
- Organizing workshops and seminars to promote women's empowerment and education, particularly in the North.
Emir Sanusi II's advocacy for girl child education has been widely recognized and praised, and has helped to raise awareness about the importance of education for girls in the North. His efforts have also inspired other leaders and stakeholders to take action to promote girls' education in the region.
