Efcc writes nigeria customs to place fayose on watch list

A recent development!

According to reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has written to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to place former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on its watch list.

The EFCC is seeking to prevent Fayose from leaving the country or engaging in any financial transactions that may compromise the ongoing investigation into his alleged financial misdeeds.

Fayose is currently being investigated by the EFCC over allegations of money laundering and misappropriation of public funds during his tenure as governor of Ekiti State from 2014 to 2018.

The EFCC has accused Fayose of diverting public funds to personal use, including the alleged misappropriation of N2.2 billion meant for the purchase of arms to fight Boko Haram.

The commission has also accused Fayose of laundering the stolen funds through various means, including the purchase of properties and investments in the country and abroad.

The EFCC's move to place Fayose on the watch list is seen as a bid to prevent him from fleeing the country or hiding his assets, which could compromise the investigation.

It remains to be seen how Fayose will respond to this development, but it's clear that the EFCC is determined to bring him to justice for alleged financial crimes.
