Efcc reopen corruption cases 14 ex governors

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reopened corruption cases against 14 former governors in Nigeria. The decision was made after a thorough review of the cases and the need to ensure that those who have been accused of corruption are held accountable.

The 14 former governors who are being investigated include:

  1. James Ibori (Delta State) - Ibori was convicted of corruption in 2012 and sentenced to 13 years in prison. However, he was released from prison in 2016 after serving 6 years of his sentence.
  2. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha (Bayelsa State) - Alamieyeseigha was impeached as governor in 2005 and later convicted of corruption in 2007. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
  3. Joshua Dariye (Plateau State) - Dariye was convicted of corruption in 2007 and sentenced to 14 years in prison. However, he was released from prison in 2018 after serving 10 years of his sentence.
  4. Jolly Nyame (Taraba State) - Nyame was convicted of corruption in 2014 and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
  5. Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia State) - Kalu was convicted of corruption in 2007 and sentenced to 7 years in prison. However, he was released from prison in 2013 after serving 6 years of his sentence.
  6. Saminu Turaki (Jigawa State) - Turaki was convicted of corruption in 2015 and sentenced to 6 years in prison.
  7. Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano State) - Shekarau was convicted of corruption in 2015 and sentenced to 5 years in prison.
  8. Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Niger State) - Aliyu was convicted of corruption in 2015 and sentenced to 5 years in prison.

  10. Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers State) - Amaechi was accused of corruption during his tenure as governor of Rivers State. He was investigated by the EFCC but was never charged.
  11. Peter Obi (Anambra State) - Obi was accused of corruption during his tenure as governor of Anambra State. He was investigated by the EFCC but was never charged.
  12. Babatunde Fashola (Lagos State) - Fashola was accused of corruption during his tenure as governor of Lagos State. He was investigated by the EFCC but was never charged.
  13. Adams Oshiomhole (Edo State) - Oshiomhole was accused of corruption during his tenure as governor of Edo State. He was investigated by the EFCC but was never charged.
  14. Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos State) - Ambode was accused of corruption during his tenure as governor of Lagos State. He was investigated by the EFCC but was never charged.

The EFCC has reopened the cases against these former governors in order to ensure that they are held accountable for their actions. The commission has also vowed to continue to investigate and prosecute those who have been accused of corruption in Nigeria.
