Efcc debunks claim of ekweremadu as its anti corruption ambassador
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked a claim that Senator Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy President of the Senate, has been appointed as its anti-corruption ambassador.
The EFCC made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren.
According to the statement, the commission has not appointed Senator Ekweremadu as its anti-corruption ambassador, and any claim to that effect is false and misleading.
The statement reads: "The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been drawn to a false and misleading publication making the rounds that Senator Ike Ekweremadu has been appointed as the anti-corruption ambassador of the Commission.
"For the avoidance of doubt, the EFCC wishes to categorically state that Senator Ekweremadu has not been appointed as its anti-corruption ambassador. The Commission has not made any such appointment and any claim to that effect is false and misleading.
"The EFCC is committed to its mandate of fighting corruption and will not engage in any activity that could compromise its integrity or undermine its efforts to rid the country of corruption. The public is advised to disregard the false publication and any other similar claims that may be made in the future."
It is not clear who made the initial claim about Senator Ekweremadu's appointment as EFCC anti-corruption ambassador, but the commission's denial has put the matter to rest.
