Efcc charges abuja babalawo for defrauding man of n2 5million
Here is the information:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged a self-proclaimed Babalawo (traditional healer) in Abuja, one Alhaji Suleiman Sule, to court for allegedly defrauding a man of N2.5 million.
According to a statement by the EFCC, Suleiman was arrested on February 24, 2023, following a complaint by one Mr. Emmanuel Okeke, who alleged that the Babalawo had defrauded him of the sum of N2.5 million under the guise of performing a ritual to make him rich.
The EFCC alleged that Suleiman had promised Okeke that he would perform a ritual to make him rich, but instead, he took the money and disappeared.
The commission said that during investigation, it was discovered that Suleiman had a history of similar fraudulent activities, and that he had been using his position as a Babalawo to defraud unsuspecting victims.
Suleiman was charged to court on a three-count charge of fraud, which includes obtaining money by false pretence, cheating, and stealing.
The EFCC is seeking to recover the sum of N2.5 million from Suleiman, as well as a fine of N500,000 or imprisonment for a term of five years.
The case has been adjourned to March 15, 2023, for further hearing.
This is a classic case of fraud, and it highlights the need for people to be cautious when dealing with individuals who claim to have supernatural powers or abilities. It is also a reminder that the EFCC is committed to fighting fraud and protecting the public from fraudulent activities.
