Dua upon hearig news of death
Here are some common Du'as (supplications) that Muslims recite when they hear news of someone's death:
- "Allahumma arhamhu wa arham rohuhu, wa a'fu lahu, wa ghfir lahu, wa rhamhu" (O Allah, have mercy on him, and have mercy on his soul, and forgive him, and be pleased with him).
- "Allahumma inna ilayka yuridu al-qulub, wa inna ilayka anabnu wa ilayka al-masir, fa'fu lahu, wa ghfir lahu, wa rhamhu" (O Allah, the hearts are inclined towards You, and we are Your servants, and our final destination is with You. Forgive him, and have mercy on him).
- "Allahumma ajirhu min al-jahanni wa al-firash, wa ajirhu min al-qabri wa al-masir, wa ajirhu min al-harz wa al-gham, wa ajirhu min al-ghafla wa al-nisa' wa al-ibtila'" (O Allah, save him from the Fire, and from the grave, and from the reckoning, and from the fear, and from the grief, and from forgetfulness, and from women's whispers, and from trials).
- "Allahumma inna ilayka tawakkaltu, wa ilayka anabtu, wa ilayka amantu, wa ilayka as'aluk al-ma'ruf, wa minkas-namtu, wa minkas-salaama" (O Allah, I have placed my trust in You, and I have turned to You, and I have believed in You, and I ask You for good, and I seek refuge with You from evil, and I seek peace and security from You).
- "Allahumma rahimahu, wa rahim rohuhu, wa rahim ahlihi, wa rahim mala'ihim, wa rahim mawta'ihim, wa rahim qabrihim" (O Allah, have mercy on him, and have mercy on his soul, and have mercy on his family, and have mercy on his wealth, and have mercy on his death, and have mercy on his grave).
It's worth noting that these Du'as are not exhaustive, and Muslims are encouraged to recite any Du'a that comes to their heart and mind when they hear news of someone's death.
