Dua for sighting the new moon
Here are some common Duas (prayers) that Muslims recite when sighting the new moon:
For sighting the new moon in the evening:
- "Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni" (O Allah, You are the One Who pardons greatly, and loves to pardon, so pardon me).
- "Allahumma rabbana wa lakal-hamdu, anta khairul-waqt, khairul-muqtar, khairul-mu'akhkhir, khairul-mu'ajil, khairul-mu'akhkhir, khairul-mu'ajil, khairul-mu'ajil, khairul-mu'ajil" (O Allah, our Lord, and to You belongs all praise, You are the best of times, the best of beginnings, the best of endings, the best of hastening, the best of delaying).
- "Allahumma innaka 'anta al-muhyi al-mumit, wa anta 'ala kulli shay'in qadir, fa-inna 'ahdaka 'ala 'ahdi 'ahdi 'ahdi, wa 'ahdi 'ahdi 'ahdi, wa 'ahdi 'ahdi 'ahdi, wa 'ahdi 'ahdi 'ahdi, wa 'ahdi 'ahdi 'ahdi" (O Allah, You are the Giver of life and death, and You have power over all things, so we have entrusted our affairs to Your care, and we have entrusted our affairs to Your care, and we have entrusted our affairs to Your care, and we have entrusted our affairs to Your care).
For sighting the new moon in the morning:
- "Allahumma innaka 'anta al-muhyi al-mumit, wa anta 'ala kulli shay'in qadir, fa-inna 'ahdaka 'ala 'ahdi 'ahdi 'ahdi, wa 'ahdi 'ahdi 'ahdi, wa 'ahdi 'ahdi 'ahdi, wa 'ahdi 'ahdi 'ahdi" (O Allah, You are the Giver of life and death, and You have power over all things, so we have entrusted our affairs to Your care, and we have entrusted our affairs to Your care, and we have entrusted our affairs to Your care).
