Dss urges asuu to call off strike
The Director of Social Services (DSS) has urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its ongoing strike.
According to reports, the DSS made this appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying that the strike has caused untold hardship to students and their families.
The statement read in part: "The Director of Social Services, DSS, urges ASUU to reconsider its decision and call off the strike. The strike has caused immense hardship to students and their families, and it is imperative that a solution is found to resolve the issues at stake."
The DSS also appealed to the Federal Government to engage in meaningful dialogue with ASUU to resolve the issues that led to the strike.
The statement further read: "The DSS also urges the Federal Government to engage in meaningful dialogue with ASUU to resolve the issues that led to the strike. The government should take concrete steps to address the concerns of ASUU and ensure that the strike is called off as soon as possible."
The ASUU strike, which began on February 14, has led to the closure of all public universities in Nigeria, affecting over 1.5 million students.
The union is demanding improved funding for universities, better working conditions for lecturers, and the implementation of the 2009 agreement between the government and ASUU.
The strike has been ongoing for over two months, and there is no end in sight yet.
