Doubleclick opens a new window in windows explorer
A classic issue!
The behavior you're describing is likely due to the way DoubleClick is configured to open links in Windows Explorer. By default, DoubleClick is set to open links in a new window instead of a new tab. This can be frustrating, especially if you're used to having multiple tabs open at the same time.
Here are a few possible solutions to help you open links in a new tab instead of a new window:
- Change the default browser behavior: You can modify the default browser behavior to open links in a new tab instead of a new window. To do this:
- Right-click on an empty area of the desktop and select "New" > "Shortcut".
- In the "Create Shortcut" window, enter the following command:
explorer.exe "http://example.com"
(replace "http://example.com" with the URL you want to open). - Click "Next" and then "Finish" to create the shortcut.
- Right-click on the shortcut and select "Properties".
- In the "Properties" window, click on the "Shortcut" tab and then click on the "Change" button next to "Opens with".
- Select "Internet Explorer" (or your default browser) from the list of programs.
- Click "OK" to save the changes.
- Use a third-party browser extension: There are several browser extensions available that can help you open links in a new tab instead of a new window. For example, you can try the "Open in New Tab" extension for Google Chrome or the "New Tab" extension for Mozilla Firefox.
- Modify the registry: If you're comfortable editing the registry, you can try modifying the following registry key:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
- Create a new string value called "OpenInNewTab" and set its value to "1".
After making these changes, try opening a link in DoubleClick to see if it opens in a new tab instead of a new window.
