Did ashpenaz give daniel a new name
In the biblical book of Daniel, chapter 1, Ashpenaz, the chief of the eunuchs, gives Daniel and his three friends a new name. According to Daniel 1:7, Ashpenaz renamed them:
- Daniel was renamed Belteshazzar
- Hananiah was renamed Shadrach
- Mishael was renamed Meshach
- Azariah was renamed Abednego
These new names were likely given to them to assimilate them into the Babylonian culture and to distance them from their Jewish heritage. However, Daniel and his friends remained faithful to their God and continued to worship Him in secret, even in the midst of the Babylonian court.
