Deuteronomy 15 in good news bible
Here is Deuteronomy 15 in the Good News Bible (GNB):
Deuteronomy 15
1 At the end of every seven years you must cancel the debts of all your fellow Israelites. 2 This is what the Lord your God requires of you. You must forgive your fellow Israelites and lend them money without charging interest. 3 You may lend to foreigners, but you must charge them interest. 4 However, there will be no poor among you, because the Lord will bless you in the land he is giving you as an inheritance to possess. 5 If there is a poor person among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns in the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted towards them. 6 Instead, be openhanded and generously lend them what they need. 7 Be careful not to think to yourself, "The seventh year, the year of cancellation, is near," so that you refuse to lend to your poor fellow Israelites and they cry out to the Lord against you. 8 For the Lord will bless you in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance, if only you obey him and follow his commands and keep all his decrees that are written in this book of the law. 9 If there is a poor person among you, do not harden your heart or shut your hand from your poor fellow Israelite. 10 Instead, be openhanded and generously lend them what they need. 11 Be careful not to think to yourself, "The seventh year, the year of cancellation, is near," so that you refuse to lend to your poor fellow Israelites and they cry out to the Lord against you. 12 When you lend to your neighbor anything at all, do not charge interest. 13 When you lend money to a neighbor, you must not charge interest. 14 But if you lend money to a foreigner, you may charge interest. 15 But when you lend to your fellow Israelite, you must not charge interest. 16 Take daring action! Be generous! Lend freely to your fellow Israelites who are in need, and do not think of it as a burden. 17 Fear the Lord your God and serve him. If you do this, he will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. 18 You will always have enough to lend to those in need, and God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
19 You may plant all kinds of trees for your own benefit, but in the third year you must not eat their fruit. 20 You may eat the fruit from the trees that grow of their own accord, but you must not cut them down. 21 You may eat the grapes from the vineyards that grow of their own accord, but you must not prune them. 22 You must give the entire tithe of your crops to the Levites, the foreigners, the orphans, and the widows, so that they may eat and be satisfied. 23 You must remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God redeemed you. That is why I command you to give the entire tithe of your crops to the Levites. 24 If you forget to give the Levites their tithe, when you remember, you must give it to them. Do not curse the Levites, because they will not have any other inheritance among you. 25 You must give the Levites the entire tithe of your crops, because they have no other inheritance among you. 26 You must also give the Levites the firstfruits of all your crops, because they have no other inheritance among you. 27 The Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. You will always have enough to lend to those in need, and God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
