Daniel 1 4 new king
A great biblical reference!
Daniel 1:4-5 (NIV) says:
"The king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring in some of the young men of Israel, including some of the king's family and nobles—young men who had the appearance and good looks, and who were versed in wisdom, literature and the language of the king's court. The king assigned them a daily ration from the king's table and from the wine that he drank."
In this passage, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, who had conquered Jerusalem and exiled many of its people, including Daniel and his friends, decided to select some of the most talented and attractive young Israelites to serve in his court. This was a way for the king to assimilate the Israelites into Babylonian culture and to train them in the ways of the Babylonian court.
