Former Royal AM co-coach Dan Malesela has spoken out about how it felt coaching the club’s player-chairperson Andile Mpisane.

The 21-year-old Mpisane’s first appearance this season came when he was an unused substitute in Thwihli Thwahla’s 1-0 defeat to Richards Bay FC earlier this month.

His inclusion was trolled by many who are still not convinced that he deserves to play in the top flight.

Football enthusiasts concluded that the coaches had no choice but to include Mpisane because it was an order from the top management.

However, Malesela says the chairperson “works hard” in training like other players and as coaches, they among themselves decided they would add his name to the matchday squad.

Malesela was asked how it felt coaching his boss, but he insisted they treated him like other lads.

MPISANE ON COACHING ANDILE MPISANE

“[You coach your boss] like any other player, he is just one of those players,” Malesela said in an interview with Sports Night Amplified on Metro FM.

Asked if he used to shout to the chairman, he said: “It doesn’t really matter, when he is on the field he is in our territory.”

In other news, Malesela says what drew him to back to Marumo Gallants was that many players he worked with during his first stint with the club are still there.

“One of the biggest reasons I went back is that the majority of the players I had last season are still there,” he said.

“I need to look after this brand [Dan Malesela] to say where can it work and from the [training] session we had today, you could tell the excitement, you could tell the interest of the players.”
