Hafez Ghanem was appointed as the Vice President for Equitable Growth, Finance and Institutions in June 2019. He is responsible for leading the World Bank's efforts to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, improve financial inclusion, and strengthen institutions in client countries.
Prior to his appointment as Vice President, Ghanem served as the World Bank's Chief Economist for the Middle East and North Africa region. He has also held various positions within the World Bank, including Director of the Development Research Group and Director of the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Unit.
Ghanem holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and has published numerous papers on topics such as economic growth, poverty reduction, and institutional development.
