Professor Mahmood Yakubu is a Nigerian academic and politician who has been the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) since November 2015. He was born on May 5, 1962, in Katsina State, Nigeria. Prior to his appointment as INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu was a professor of History at the University of Abuja and had served as the Director of the Centre for Democratic Development at the National Open University of Nigeria.
