Cpu fan not spinning new build

A new build with a CPU fan that's not spinning! That can be frustrating. Let's troubleshoot this issue together.

Here are some steps to help you identify and potentially fix the problem:

  1. Check the CPU fan settings:
    • Ensure that the CPU fan is set to "Auto" or "Enabled" in your motherboard's BIOS settings. You can usually access the BIOS settings by pressing a key like F2, F12, or Del during boot-up.
    • Check if the CPU fan is set to a specific speed or temperature threshold. If it's set to a specific speed, try setting it to "Auto" or a higher speed.
  2. Verify the CPU fan connection:
    • Make sure the CPU fan is properly connected to the CPU fan header on your motherboard. The fan header is usually a 4-pin or 3-pin connector.
    • Check if the fan is securely seated on the CPU fan header. If it's loose, try tightening it.
  3. Check the power supply:
    • Ensure that your power supply unit (PSU) is capable of providing power to the CPU fan. Check the PSU's specifications to see if it has a sufficient number of 3-pin or 4-pin fan connectors.
    • If your PSU has a fan header, try connecting the CPU fan to it and see if it spins.
  4. Check for dust or debris:
    • Dust or debris can block the fan's blades or motor, preventing it from spinning. Try cleaning the fan with compressed air or a soft brush.
  5. Check the fan's power cable:
    • Ensure that the fan's power cable is securely connected to the motherboard or PSU.
    • Try swapping the fan's power cable with another one to rule out any issues with the cable.
  6. Check the motherboard's fan control:
    • Some motherboards have a fan control feature that can be enabled or disabled in the BIOS settings. Check if this feature is enabled and try disabling it.
  7. Try a different fan:
    • If you have a spare CPU fan, try swapping it with the current one to see if the issue persists.
  8. Check for any BIOS updates:
    • Ensure that your motherboard's BIOS is up to date. An outdated BIOS might cause issues with fan control.
  9. Contact the manufacturer:
    • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact the manufacturer of your CPU fan or motherboard for further assistance.

Remember to always unplug the power cord from your system before attempting any troubleshooting or repairs.
