Covid 19 kaduna govt arrests two clerics for conducting service

According to reports, the Kaduna State Government has arrested two clerics for conducting a church service despite the ban on religious gatherings in the state to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The two clerics, identified as Pastor John Joseph and Pastor Samuel Audu, were arrested on Sunday, April 26, 2020, at the Christ Evangelical Church, Kakuri, Kaduna, for conducting a service that defied the state government's ban on religious gatherings.

The Kaduna State Government had earlier banned all religious gatherings, including church services, mosques, and other places of worship, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The state government's Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the arrest in a statement, saying that the two clerics were arrested for violating the government's order.

Aruwan said that the government would not tolerate any violation of its orders, and that those who continued to defy the ban would be arrested and prosecuted.

The arrest of the two clerics has sparked controversy, with some people criticizing the government for being too harsh, while others have praised the government for taking a firm stance to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic has spread to all 36 states of Nigeria, including Kaduna, and has resulted in over 1,000 confirmed cases and over 30 deaths in the country.
