Couples in the new testament
Here are some notable couples mentioned in the New Testament:
- Joseph and Mary (Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1:26-38) - The parents of Jesus Christ, who were betrothed but not yet married when Mary became pregnant with Jesus.
- Zechariah and Elizabeth (Luke 1:5-25) - The parents of John the Baptist, who were both elderly and childless when Elizabeth became pregnant.
- Peter and his wife (Matthew 8:14-15, Mark 1:29-31) - Peter's wife is not named in the Bible, but it is mentioned that she was sick with a fever, which Peter healed.
- Philip and his four daughters (Acts 21:8-9) - Philip, one of the seven deacons, had four virgin daughters who were prophetesses.
- Aquila and Priscilla (Acts 18:1-3, Romans 16:3-5) - A couple who were tentmakers and hosted the apostle Paul in Corinth. Priscilla is often mentioned as being more prominent in their ministry.
- Andronicus and Junia (Romans 16:7) - A couple who were Christians and fellow workers with the apostle Paul.
- Philemon and Apphia (Philemon 1:1-2) - A couple who were hosts to the apostle Paul and were mentioned in his letter to Philemon.
- Onesimus and Philemon (Philemon 1:10-16) - A slave who ran away from Philemon and was converted by Paul, who then sent him back to Philemon with a letter asking him to receive Onesimus as a brother.
It's worth noting that the New Testament does not provide a lot of information about couples, and many of the references to couples are incidental or passing mentions. However, these examples do give us a glimpse into the lives and relationships of early Christian couples.
