Coronavirus un asks 9 countries to delay peacekeeper rotations
According to a recent report, the United Nations has asked 9 countries to delay the rotation of their peacekeepers due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has requested the countries to delay the rotation of their troops and police personnel in order to minimize the risk of transmission of the virus.
The 9 countries that have been asked to delay their rotations are:
- Bangladesh
- China
- India
- Indonesia
- Japan
- Malaysia
- Nepal
- Pakistan
- South Korea
The UN has taken this decision to ensure the safety and well-being of the peacekeepers, as well as the local populations they are deployed to protect.
The UN peacekeeping operations are currently deployed in 13 countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic, among others.
The UN has also taken several measures to prevent the spread of the virus among its personnel, including temperature checks, social distancing, and the use of personal protective equipment.
It's worth noting that the UN has also been working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to monitor the situation and provide guidance to its personnel on how to prevent the spread of the virus.
