Coronavirus lagos meets religious leaders

CORONAVIRUS LAGOS MEETS RELIGIOUS LEADERS

In a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus in Lagos, the state government has held a meeting with religious leaders to discuss ways to curb the spread of the virus.

The meeting, which took place at the Lagos State Government House, Ikeja, was attended by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other top government officials, as well as representatives of various religious organizations in the state.

The Governor, in his address, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and religious leaders in the fight against the coronavirus. He urged the religious leaders to use their influence to educate their followers on the importance of adhering to the guidelines set by the government to prevent the spread of the virus.

"We recognize the significant role that religious leaders play in shaping the behavior of their followers, and we believe that your influence can be a powerful tool in our fight against the coronavirus," the Governor said.

The religious leaders, who were represented by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Samson Ayokunle, among others, commended the government for its efforts in containing the spread of the virus.

They, however, urged the government to provide more support to the religious organizations in their efforts to educate their followers on the importance of adhering to the guidelines set by the government.

"We appreciate the efforts of the government in containing the spread of the virus, but we believe that more needs to be done to support our efforts in educating our followers," Pastor Adeboye said.

The religious leaders also urged the government to provide more resources to support the vulnerable members of society, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, who are more susceptible to the virus.

"We believe that it is the responsibility of the government to protect the vulnerable members of society, and we urge you to provide more resources to support them," Rev. Ayokunle said.

The meeting ended with a commitment from both the government and the religious leaders to work together to contain the spread of the coronavirus in Lagos.
