Coronavirus cameroon records first case of deadly virus
According to reports, Cameroon has recorded its first case of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on March 6, 2020. The patient is a 58-year-old Chinese national who had traveled to the country from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the outbreak.
The patient was admitted to a hospital in the capital city of Yaoundé after showing symptoms of the virus, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath. The diagnosis was confirmed by the National Public Health Institute of Cameroon (INSPC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Cameroonian government has taken immediate action to contain the spread of the virus, including:
- Activating an emergency response plan to coordinate efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.
- Isolating the patient and tracing contacts to identify anyone who may have been exposed.
- Increasing surveillance at airports, seaports, and land borders to detect and prevent the entry of infected individuals.
- Providing information and guidance to the public on how to prevent the spread of the virus.
The WHO has also provided technical support to the Cameroonian government to help contain the outbreak.
It's worth noting that Cameroon has a relatively low level of preparedness for infectious disease outbreaks, and the country's healthcare system may face challenges in responding to the outbreak. However, the government and health authorities are working to strengthen their response and prevent the spread of the virus.
As of now, there are no reported cases of the virus outside of the initial case, and the situation is being closely monitored by health authorities.
